GuyKat MD named in '42 Under 42'

In a massive 'fail' for our PR department we somehow missed this report from April that our founder Guy McEvoy was named by Insider Media as one of their '42 under 42' for 2012.   This annual list identifies 42 people under the age of 42 who are "rising stars" in business in the Midlands.   It is thought we didn't notice because we don't subscribe to their paper and they didn't think to tell us.    Guy said; "I suppose it's nice to get recognition, even if you don't clock it for six months.   I see they're having a gala dinner for this year's list in November.  I hope they remember to invite me."

Coming soon.... Cloudteach News

We've been pretty coy recently on the Cloudteach project, but we're hoping to be able to make a bit of an announcement soon - in the meantime here's our new Cloudteach logo - we hope you'll be seeing a lot more of it.

Seeking an Intern (3 months, paid-position)

eLearning Graduate Internship

APPLICATIONS NOW CLOSED

Wanted:  Bright, adaptable, quick-learning, friendly graduate. Based:  Nr. Central Birmingham,  From MID-FEB 2012. Mon-Thur (26 Hrs total per week, £7 per hour)

The Role

Are you a recent graduate (of any age) who would traditionally have walked into a job with a large corporate employer but find yourself frustrated by the current economic climate.    Our hope is to help someone caught in the recession trap get a foot on the employment ladder.

This is a fixed three-month role.  It is an internship so you should be clear that part of the role is junior.  However, there is also the very real opportunity to contribute to meaningful client work.  In reverse order of challenge the role involves:

  • Administrative support  & general errands
  • Building and maintaining a virtual asset library
  • Helping prepare graphics for animation
  • (after training) creating animations & eLearning materials.
  • Web-based market research.

What’s in it for you?

This role is paid.  This is not a slave labour voluntary ‘internship’.  We will pay for your time at a rate above minimum wage (£7 per hour).

You will receive training, initially online then ‘on-the-job’, in eLearning development tools including Adobe Captivate 5.5.  You will also be taught our development methodology.

You will get to work on real client facing projects.

You will enhance your CV, pick-up new skills, gain real work-experience and hopefully earn a good reference.

Who Should Apply?

Although there is a strong IT element to our work, we will consider candidates from ANY academic discipline.  Enthusiasm for technology and natural people skills are more important than your current level of technical knowledge.

With that in mind candidates MUST:

  • Be educated to degree level (already graduated)
  • Be passionate about technology & generally IT literate
  • Have proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Be very quick learners
  • Be superb communicators
  • Have an eye for detail and quality
  • Be able to work to deadline, without supervision
  • Have the legal right to reside and work in the UK
  • Be fully available from mid-Feb through mid-May 2012

Additional knowledge of any of the following technologies/skills would be a bonus though you should not be afraid to apply even if you find any or all of these words meaningless:

  • eLearning/Instructional design, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Flash, LMS Systems, HTML, Photoshop, graphic design, video production

GuyKat Solutions Expanding

December 12, 2011 - Guy McEvoy, founder of Guykat Solutions today signed an extension to the companies tenancy  at Birmingham Science Park - Aston which included an expansion of the company's physical office space.  The company will now relocate to the first floor of Faraday Wharf.  Guy said "It's exciting to be growing.  We're recruiting and need more space for 2012.  We did look elsewhere, but the other places never had quite the same 'feel', 'fit', nor offered the same level of support for a company in our sector.  I'm happy we're staying and happy we're growing".

The physical move should be completed by early January. There will be no change to our  postal address or phone numbers.

Seeking Midlands Captivate Developers

Are you a whizz at Adobe Captivate 5.5?  Are you learner focussed?  Can you hold your own in a corporate client environment? Are you based in the West Midlands in the UK?  Are you looking for work?  Do you want brilliant projects?  Yes to all?  We should speak.  Please contact us

Now Developing in Adobe Captivate 5.5

This week we made the upgrade to the Adobe eLearning suite 2.5.   For us, the most significant component of this migration is that it updates our primary development platform from Captivate 5.0 to Captivate 5.5.   For our clients the change will be invisible but not irrelevant.  Some of the new functionality we gain will improve our development workflows.  We gain access to  more varied templates to accelerate our story-boarding process with means more time is available to invest in worrying about the all important content over and above aesthetic design.

The migration also means we shift from cleaning our sound and narration via Soundbooth to the Adobe Audition software.   What does this mean?  Well, a ton of stuff.  But all the clients need to know is that this means our voice-overs will still be crystal clear!
