Life on the GuyKat Graduate Scheme: Oliver’s Journey into Platform Enablement
👨🎓 Meet Oliver Perrett 👨🎓 We caught up with Oliver Perrett, who recently completed the GuyKat Graduate Programme, to reflect on his experience.
Can you tell us about your role at GuyKat and how your journey began?
I joined GuyKat in June 2024 as part of the Graduate Scheme. My first rotation was with the PET team (Platform Enablement Team), which gave me a solid introduction to the Docebo learning platform and the tools we use to support clients. It also helped me understand how the company works from the inside out. For my second rotation, I moved into Platform Consulting, which has felt like a natural next step. I’ve been able to contribute to larger LMS implementation projects, taking what I learned in PET and applying it directly to client-facing work. In my last rotation, I was part of the UX/UI team, which specialises in bespoke design utilising HTML and CSS customisation to improve the user experience of your Docebo.
What was your experience like on the Graduate Scheme?
It was fantastic! One of the things I value most is how varied the experience is. I really appreciated the opportunity to explore different areas of the business and gain experience along the way. One of the highlights has been the people and the atmosphere; everyone has been incredibly friendly and approachable from the start, and it’s clear they genuinely care about your growth as an individual. There’s a great balance here between trusting you with meaningful, challenging work and providing the support you need as someone new to the role.
What inspired you to apply for the Graduate Scheme at GuyKat?
I was really drawn to GuyKat after reading their job advert. It stood out from the many others I came across because it genuinely emphasised learning, personal growth, and a passion for technology, which really suited me. I also appreciated how open and collaborative the company sounded, with a culture where people are eager to share their expertise and equally willing to listen, regardless of your level of experience. It felt like the kind of environment that I would enjoy being a part of.
What were you doing before joining GuyKat?
Before joining GuyKat, I completed a computer science degree at the University of Birmingham as part of an apprenticeship with another company. While I loved my time at uni, I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do next, which is why GuyKat stood out. It offered the chance to explore different areas professionally rather than being locked into a specific role.
What stood out to you about working at GuyKat?
For me, it was all about the company culture. In my previous experience at a larger, more traditional company, I often felt overlooked and struggled to build meaningful connections at work. That experience made me realise how important the right environment is for me, and since joining GuyKat, I’ve been enjoying work so much more.
How did you find the application and interview process?
The application and interview process felt natural. I’d been job hunting for a while and was starting to feel frustrated with the lack of progress, with so many applications either having long delays or no response at all. GuyKat was completely different. The process was quick, and the communication throughout was great, which I really appreciated. This was my first interview since finishing uni, so I was pretty nervous, but everyone was so supportive and understanding, which made the experience much easier.
What do you enjoy most about your current role?
The people I get to work. Everyone puts in so much effort to make sure you feel seen and part of the team. I haven’t had anything close to a negative experience, and I honestly don’t see that changing anytime soon, which allows me to focus on learning and doing the work I enjoy.
How have you grown since joining GuyKat?
There’s so much I’ve gained since joining GuyKat. Personally, I’ve grown a lot in confidence. I’ve always been quite reserved, and in the past, I’d hesitate to ask for help or clarification, which often led to wasting time trying to figure things out on my own. Being here has pushed me to step out of that comfort zone, and I’ve realised how valuable it is to ask questions or admit when I need something explained again. Professionally, I’ve picked up loads of technical skills around configuring an LMS and have also improved in working with and communicating with clients.
What advice would you give someone considering the GuyKat Graduate Scheme?
My advice would be, just go for it! Don’t worry too much about your background or experience; what matters most is whether it feels like a place where you’d want to work. In your cover letter, make sure to explain why you’re applying and be your authentic self. If you’re someone who loves learning and wants to be part of a team that’s passionate about that, you’re a great fit. Just be sure to show that enthusiasm throughout the application process!
