When Ollie joined GuyKat as a Graduate in 2024, he wasn’t entirely sure which direction he wanted his career to take. Thanks to a series of graduate placements across GuyKat, he discovered a passion for platform development. Today, Ollie is a valued member of our Platform Design & Development team, helping deliver solutions for global clients every day.
We caught up with him to reflect on his experience of the Graduate Scheme, what surprised him most, and the advice he’d give to anyone thinking about applying.
What was your experience like on GuyKat’s Graduate Scheme?
“When I joined as a Graduate it involved doing multiple placements in order to get a sense of the business. I could then find the area that I gain and produce the most value in.”
“The variation of work I was doing each day meant I could find solutions to unique client problems. Each task I worked on allowed me to practice or develop a new skill. It was extremely rewarding to know that people directly benefited from the work I did.”
That variety of experience proved invaluable. Those early placements gave Ollie the opportunity to explore different areas of the business before finding the role that suited him best. Today, he’s part of GuyKat’s Platform Design & Development team, where he continues to build on the foundations he developed during the Graduate Scheme. But for Ollie, the learning hasn’t just come from the work itself.
“This experience has been boosted by the amazing people that I get to work with each day. They always make themselves available to help with any particular issues, regardless of which area of the company they work in.”
Feeling supported has also helped him develop confidence in his own ideas.
“I feel that I am a valued member of the team and my thoughts are always seriously considered, despite having less experience than others. That has helped me develop my confidence in sharing ideas and my curiosity to learn more.”
Why Choose the GuyKat Graduate Scheme?
Finding the right role was important, but so was finding the right company.
“I had just graduated from university and wanted to work somewhere where I could use the skills that I had developed. What really solidified my interest in working for GuyKat, however, was the work culture. It focused on helping each other to develop our personal and professional skills in an environment that values everyone and respects the differences between each other.”
That positive first impression didn’t stop after Ollie accepted the role. So, when asked what stood out most about GuyKat, Ollie’s answer was immediate.
“I do not believe there are many places out there that are able to make their working environments so positive to all employees! GuyKat exceeded all of my expectations and continues to impress me with the amount that each employee is cared for and respected.”
For many graduates, however, the application process can be daunting but Ollie remembers the process very differently.
“I never felt that my lack of professional experience impacted me negatively in my application process or since starting at GuyKat. GuyKat was more concerned with the type of person that I am and the things that I am capable of doing. I found the application and interview process the best balance between casual and formal.”
What Advice Would You Give Future Graduates?
“Do it! You have nothing to lose and absolutely everything to gain. Even if your background is not in the tech industry, or you feel like you lack past experience. If you demonstrate the working culture and personality that the company values, you will love it here! The Graduate Scheme gives you the chance to find out where you enjoy working the most.”
Looking back, it’s clear the GuyKat Graduate Scheme gave Ollie far more than his first job. It helped him discover the career he wanted. Today, he’s part of our Platform Design & Development team, working on projects for global brands and continuing to build new skills every day.
